The iconic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is set to unveil a new masterpiece: L’Observatoire, a luxurious sleeper car designed by renowned artist JR. Scheduled to debut in March 2025, this unique carriage will offer guests a truly immersive and artistic travel experience.
JR has transformed the interior of L’Observatoire into a mobile art gallery, replicating the ambiance of his Parisian studio. The carriage features a series of “micro-environments,” including a bedroom, bathroom, lounge, library, and a hidden Tea Room.
A standout feature is the bedroom, complete with a freestanding bathtub and two oculus-shaped skylights that offer breathtaking views of the passing landscape. The bedroom’s design, featuring green leather scalloping and a surrealist tree by Michael Mayer, reflects JR’s imaginative and whimsical style.
Throughout the carriage, guests will discover a collection of JR’s original photographs, showcasing his travels and artistic vision. The lounge area offers flexible seating arrangements and a day bed for leisurely relaxation, while the library is stocked with books and vinyl records.
One of the most intriguing aspects of L’Observatoire is the hidden Tea Room, accessible through a secret door. This intimate space features a miniature train installation and a collection of JR’s “Giants” series.
L’Observatoire is now available for bookings. The journey will include gourmet meals, a dedicated butler, in-cabin dining, and a host of other luxurious amenities. Guests can expect to be captivated by the artistry and sophistication of this exceptional travel experience.
