Italy’s Amalfi Coast is set to become more accessible to tourists with the opening of a new commercial airport.
Renowned for its pastel-coloured villages, dramatic cliffs, and terraced lemon groves, the Amalfi Coast attracts millions of visitors each year. However, reaching this idyllic destination has traditionally presented a challenge. Travellers often opt for flights into Naples, followed by a lengthy journey involving trains and buses.
To alleviate this inconvenience, Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport is undergoing a transformation. The airport, located approximately 45 kilometres southeast of Amalfi, is scheduled to commence commercial flights in mid-July 2024.
Previously serving as a military airport, flying school, and firefighting centre, the airfield has undergone extensive renovations to accommodate commercial air travel. Its strategic location promises to significantly reduce travel times for visitors eager to explore the Amalfi Coast.
With the new airport operational, tourists can expect a more direct and convenient journey to this breathtaking region.
